Visiting Assistant Professor of Chinese (Spartanburg, SC)
Wofford College invites applications for a visiting assistant professor to teach first- through fourth-year Chinese language, literature, and culture courses in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures for the 2025-2026 academic year. At Wofford, faculty serve as teacher-scholars dedicated to the education and mentorship of undergraduates in a liberal arts tradition. We seek candidates who have a passion for teaching undergraduates.
EXPECTATIONS
The teaching load will be 3-0-4. In the fall of 2025, the person selected will teach two Chinese language courses and one Chinese culture course taught in English. In the spring 2026 semester, the visiting assistant professor of Chinese will teach two Chinese language courses, one Chinese culture course taught in English, and one Chinese literature course taught in English. The Chinese culture or literature courses will be determined in consultation with the hired candidate. This candidate will not be required to teach during the college’s interim, which runs the entire month of January. This candidate will be working collaboratively in the growing Chinese program within the MLLC department and throughout the campus, including extracurricular multicultural events.
QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred candidate will have a Ph.D. in Chinese by the time of the appointment in August 2025. However, ABD candidates will also be considered. Applicants must have native or near-native fluency in Chinese and English. Those with college teaching experience in the U.S. are preferred. Please note that Wofford College is not able to sponsor work visas. Interested candidates must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
