Visiting Assistant Professor/Instructor in Mandarin Language and Chinese Studies (Oxford, GA)
Description
Oxford College of Emory University invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor position in Mandarin language and Chinese Studies, to begin August 2025. The teaching load is 3 courses per semester: including courses in the introductory and intermediate Mandarin language/Chinese cultures sequences, and courses in Chinese or East Asian cultural studies, taught in English (i.e. Introduction to East Asian Studies, or courses in the successful candidate’s area of specialization), and/or Chinese for Heritage Learners, depending on demand.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Master’s degree/Advanced ABD or PhD by August 1 in Chinese linguistics, culture, second language acquisition, pedagogy, or a related field; native or near-native fluency in Chinese and English; and evidence of effectiveness in teaching Chinese at the college level. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and the ability to communicate effectively with first- and second-year college students, particularly non-majors. If the successful candidate is ABD, appointment will be at the rank of Visiting Instructor.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience as the instructor of record for in-person undergraduate courses.
