Lecturer in Chinese (New York, New York)

The Chinese Language Program (CLP) in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University invites applications for positions at the rank of Lecturer in Chinese, beginning July 1, 2022. Primary responsibilities include teaching two to three courses in modern Chinese language each semester in consultation with the CLP Director and department administration. Administrative duties include curriculum development (both individual and collaborative), proctoring Chinese language placement testing, and assisting with the design and execution of program events. MA required; PhD preferred. High value is placed on ability to work closely with colleagues in the program. Positions are full-time with multi-year renewal contingent on successful review. Qualifications

Minimum Degree Required:

MA in hand by the time of appointment with specialization in linguistics, applied linguistics, or language pedagogy.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requirements for applicants include: native competency in modern Chinese with standard pronunciation, fluency in English, and a demonstrated ability to teach college level Chinese and to prepare teaching materials independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctoral degree preferred.
