The Department of East Asian Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of Virginia invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in Chinese language, expected to begin August 25, 2021. This is a one-year, tenure-ineligible appointment with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon available funding, satisfactory performance, and need for the position.
The successful applicant will hold at least a master’s level degree in a relevant field of study, such as Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, Linguistics, Chinese literature and Cultures, or other related fields, and will have experience in Chinese language teaching at all levels. Candidates must have native or near-native fluency in Chinese and English. Knowledge of current trends in language teaching methodologies and familiarity with effective uses of technologies in language instruction are required, as is a commitment to department service. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) teaching three courses per semester during the spring and fall terms, contributing to the development of the Chinese language program, and active involvement in departmental service.
