VISITING INSTRUCTOR OF CHINESE LANGUAGE (Iowa City, Iowa)

Position Description:
The Department of Asian and Slavic Languages and Literatures in the Division of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Iowa is searching for a Visiting Instructor in Chinese Language for the academic year 2025-2026. The appointment period for this position is one year. The University has a variety of faculty appointment types, and there are times when visiting instructor lines can be converted to longer-term appointments. Responsibilities include teaching three language courses per semester (one of which may be a linguistics, translation, or other course depending on department needs and the candidate’s area of specialization, for a minimum of 24 s.h. per year) and assisting with extra-curricular activities and programmatic service for the Chinese Program.

Education Requirement:

Master’s degree or higher in Chinese Pedagogy, Chinese Linguistics, Education, or a relevant field in hand by start date

Required Qualifications:

Native or near-native fluency in English and Chinese

Experience in teaching (as an instructor of record or as a TA) Chinese language courses at the college/university or high-school level in the U.S.

Desirable Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with others in programmatic service
