Visiting Professor of Chinese, Linguistics (Non-tenure track) (Athens, OH 45701)

The Department of Linguistics at Ohio University invites applications for a 1-year Visiting Professor of Chinese for the academic year 2025-2026. We are a dynamic linguistics department specializing in Applied Linguistics at both the undergraduate and graduate levels with a solid theoretical foundation. The department prepares students for professional jobs and advanced study in the field and specializes in training instructors in TESOL, TEFL, and TELT at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Linguistics department also offers language programs in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, and Swahili.

The Visiting Professor position consists of the following duties:
• Teach eight courses in the Chinese Language Program.
• Responsible for coordinating extra-curricular Chinese cultural events
• Supervise Chinese Teaching Assistants

This Visiting Professor position is a full-time, nine-month position for the academic year 2025-2026 (from August 16, 2025, to May 15, 2026).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• MA in Linguistics specializing in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) or related field by the start date of the position.
• University-level experience teaching undergraduate Chinese language courses.
• Experience with and skill in teaching using digital modes of instruction.
• Native or near-native Chinese language proficiency.
• Proficiency in or experience studying a second language.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• PhD or ABD in Linguistics specializing in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) or a related field. Also, it would be desirable if candidates had the following experience:
• Experience teaching Linguistics courses at the undergraduate and graduate level.
• Experience teaching and conducting research with both domestic and international undergraduate and graduate students.
• Experience teaching language and/or pedagogy abroad.
• Experience teaching language and/or pedagogy to undergraduates.
• International travel or overseas living experience
