Language Organizations

American Association of University Supervisors and Coordinators (AAUSC). The organization works "to promote, improve, and strengthen foreign language and second language instruction in the US."

American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) This is "the only national organization dedicated to the improvement and expansion of the teaching and learning of all languages at all levels of instruction." This home page contains a lot of resources and links for language teachers.

Center for Applied Linguistics (site for Eric Digests, ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines, etc.)

National Foreign Language Center (NFLC). NFLC 's "mission is to improve the capacity of the US to communicate in languages other than English. We implement that mission through intensive and innovative strategic planning and development with globalized institutions, organizations and enterprises throughout the US"

Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTL) Project, CARLA database of course offerings for less commonly taught languages.

National Capital Language Resource Center (NCLRC). This is "one of nine federally-funded language resource centers. The mission of the NCLRC is to serve as a resource to improve the teaching and learning of languages other than English. It fulfills this function by providing material resources and professional services that derive from its current activities and past projects." Resources on this home page include publications, reports, and databases.

National Association of Self-Instructional Language Programs (NASILP). North America's only professional organization specifically established for the fostering of self-managed academic programs in the less-commonly taught languages (LCTLs).
