- To provide an introduction to non-Chinese-specific conferences that can help enhance a Chinese teacher’s professional profile
- To provide an introduction to the grant-writing process, with a particular focus on STARTALK
This workshop will be designed to help younger scholars, in particular those that are still enrolled in a graduate program at either the master’s or doctoral level, an overview of the scholarly world beyond Chinese-specific journals, conferences and grant opportunities. Attention will be paid to identifying not only those vehicles and venues that are particularly useful, but also those that are not so much so for the Chinese language teacher. While grant-writing will be far less extensively discussed, the focus on STARTALK will provide a means by which both those in the pre-service and in-service stages of their careers may tap in to the rich range of pedagogical resources to be found through STARTALK Central for Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTLs) in general, and Chinese in particular.
