Title: Standard-Aligned Language Teaching and Assessment: What does it look like? How do we do it?

Objectives: Participants will be able to
- articulate what the FL standards are
- identify elements of a lesson aligned with the standards
- plan a standard aligned lesson using a presenter prepared template
How to plan and implement instruction so we can effectively guide learners to acquire and achieve effective communicative skills is the focus of this workshop. We will first experience and examine elements of a lesson, identify how it is aligned with the standards; then we will use presenter prepared template to design lessons we most want/need to teach. The template offers practical ways to design and implement instructional scaffolding that incorporates Integrated Performance Assessment principles. Whether one is using a textbook or starting with a topic without a text, participants will be able to experience effective communicative learning activities and take the lessons and assessment schemes designed in the workshop back to their classrooms for teaching.
